Full Service Midwifery Care and Planned Home Birth
This service currently costs $2400 (plus birth supplies) and includes:
An initial consultation to discuss informed choice, scope of practice and financial agreement forms.
Regularly-scheduled prenatal visits and exams: every 4 weeks until the 28th week; bi-weekly from week 28 through week 36; and then weekly until your birth.
Unscheduled prenatal visits as needed, for reasons such as you are not feeling well or you have a specific concern or issue that requires timely attention.
Diagnostic testing and imaging: I am able to perform all pregnancy-related lab tests; most insurances cover the charges 100%. I use Quest Diagnostics for routine blood work, paps & cultures; Genzyme/Lab Corps for genetic testing & integrated screens and send clients to Premier Diagnostics for ultrasound studies.
Referrals to CNMs, OB/GYNs or other health care providers for consultation or further testing as needed.
Childbirth education: Classes can be private and incorporated into regular prenatal visits, or scheduled with other couples if you desire.
Care during labor and birth: Throughout the process, I will monitor you and your baby’s well-being, provide emotional/physical/spiritual support and assist with comfort measures. I usually request to bring at least one birth assistant to help me with birth-related tasks, but at your request I can bring up to three assistants. My assistants can help support you and your partner, finish chores and last-minute errands or care for other children in the home.
Immediate postpartum care for you and your baby. I will remain with you for a minimum of 4 hours after the birth to ensure you and baby are stable and recovering well.
Postpartum Visits: I will return to check on you within 24 hours after birth, and then will visit every day for four more days. After that, we will see each other once or twice a week until you are fully recovered, usually within three to six weeks after the birth. These visits include newborn exams and screenings. A copy of your baby’s chart will be provided to your baby’s pediatrician.
Placenta processing and encapsulation. (See handout Emotional Ups & Downs After the Birth.)
Telephone support during your pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
Assistance with obtaining your baby’s birth certificate and Social Security number.
Any billing or paperwork needed for claims submission, if we are trying to have your care covered by your insurance policy.
Labor support in the hospital in the event that we want or need to be there.
